#185 Excuse #11 (03/15/13)

Lately I’ve been noticing another excuse getting in the way.  I’ve been lax on the fact that I haven’t been losing weight.  I do panic a little when the scale goes up, but so far, most of those ups have been balanced with downs, just not losing weight further.  I’m losing motivation because I am trying to get pregnant and that is a main focus.  I have been (mostly) logging my food on MFP (My Fitness Pal) and somewhat coming within my calorie allotments.

We have started to get a workout most days; 20-30 minutes, unless we have a long shop on our to-do list that day or errands, where we are fairly out and about and active for the day.  But it seems that because we are walking/cycling every day I seem to use that as an excuse not to push to break a sweat.  It seems to be a partial lackadaisical workout.  It is good that we are getting activity most days, and that is why we book it as 20-30 minutes on alternating days, so it isn’t that hard to book that much time, but we need not use that as an excuse to slack as a workout.  Don’t get me wrong we don’t just putz while on the stationary bike, or walk as slow as possible on the treadmill, I could just do more.  The excuse seems to be, me being on the fence about putting a lot of effort into losing weight because I’m hopefully about to get pregnant, which would mean putting it all back on.

Excuse #11 – Life becoming the excuse.  For me that is planning pregnancy (at this point.) My counter to that is, I just have to remember any pound I lose now is one I won’t be carrying when I add extra weight for baby.

This week has been a slippery slope of gradually getting worse about what I’ve been eating and how much.  I need to stop it now and regain focus that I am losing weight to get pregnant and be healthier while pregnant, and when I have a baby to carry and look after.  If I don’t nip this in the bud now, when I am pregnant, excuses will come flying out of my head as to why I can’t exercise, or why I am eating bad foods.

Tomorrow’s weigh in isn’t going to be kind, I don’t think.  I just need to keep going and not let it bring me down and start emotionally eating.

#128 Timeline of IUI (09/11/12)

Well, it has been a fairly long journey to get to this point, and it is going to be a bit longer.  The trip started pretty much at the beginning of this year when my wife tried to quit smoking.  That took a few months, then testing for Rubella, and getting on the wait list for the fertility clinic.   It was about five months ago that we got the phone call about when we might get our first appointment.  After testing, purchasing sperm and more testing we now have a new timeline.

The surgery to remove the polyp in my uterus is scheduled for mid November.  That is another two months away, then another cycle after that for our first attempt.  Late November would be my first ovulation after the surgery.  That is too early in my opinion, no healing time.  However the next ovulation would be over the Christmas/New Year period, which after reading a few other blogs, I’m not convinced our clinic will be open those days.  I’ve emailed the clinic to check.

On the upside, that gives me more time to lose weight, on the downside, that is lessening the possibility of my Grandma flying over for the birth, even now that is a remote possibility.  My boss is happy of the delayed timeframe.  She is in slight denial that I would be leaving for maternity leave.

As my other posts before this one, New Month, New Vigor or New Month, New Motivation, I need to kick up my weight loss again.  I don’t think I’m the only one that goes through this cycle of three steps forward and two steps backwards, or should I say three pounds lost, and two pounds gained.  As long as it doesn’t turn into two pounds lost and three gained, repeatedly it is still technically progress.

So now I need to get rid of the cruise pounds, and continue on my weight loss lifestyle.  Going from full buffet for a week to normal is a hard transition.  I just had three cookies with Tea Tuesday.  Not a good diet choice.  Our vegetables haven’t been cut yet for our lunch salads either; Sunday had very good reasons, Monday medium good reason.  But tonight it is the night they have to get done.  I think my body is craving the veggies again.

My current goal is to work out on Tuesdays and Thursdays, NO EXCUSES.  The closer I get to possible pregnancy the more worried I am that I will be put on bed rest because my body can’t support the weight of baby and pregnancy gain.  Well, today is Tuesday, and I have a million other things that need to be done, but I NEED to put working out in the top three.

On the fertility goals, I have also put an email into our friend who is a Fertility Acupuncturist, who owns a clinic that focuses on Fertility, which also has massage, and chiropractic, along with a few other services. Currently I have three extended medical plans which has coverage for such things, and two of which have amounts that expire at the end of the year, thus, I might as well use them up.  So I am trying to be one relaxed cookie by the time I go for the first IUI treatment.  If only the plans also covered Manis/Pettis, that would be the ultimate relaxation day.

#73 Next goal, don’t fall asleep at my desk (06/12/12)

Today at work, I’m limited to what I can do, due to computer issues.  Due to lack of stimulation, and overall sleep in the past week, I’m fighting sleep today.  I’m drinking enough coffee, but it isn’t quite enough kick.

I will cover other goals tomorrow.

#22 My challenge to myself (04/10/12)

This is my challenge.  I have now been logging all my food and exercise for a little over three weeks consecutively, however the longest I have been going under my calorie goals in a row is four days.  My challenge to myself is to make it a week without going over, starting today.  Let's see if I can do it.

#19 It's not you it's me. (04/09/12)

When is that ever true? When my wife and I first started dating, she gained 20-30 pounds and I gained 15-20.  Now we are working on this together to lose that weight, and hopefully more.  The part I'm struggling with is she doesn't like me logging food because she feels the guilt of eating. So now I have to log things long after the fact of eating.
We eat almost the same thing/amounts with slight variations.  We are three weeks in, and had no measurable success.  A side note she is also quitting smoking.  We are fighting more than ever (our first real fight was after being together for two years, yes we are normally smooshy in love), and trying to get somewhere but seem to be stuck.  Our latest disagreement is about romance.  She is using the typical line "It's not you, it's me." She can't get past her body changes from when we first started dating, so she says.  She has tried to assure me that it isn't me, but I'm not feeling it.  What can I do to get the passion back? If we wait till the proverbial weight is gone, that would be a while and decline in our togetherness.

#5 Excuse #3 Lack of motivation

Day 9, here is a recap and newest excuse to battle.
Excuse #1 -I have no time to exercise.
Excuse #2 -I lost track of time. In other words Procrastinating
Excuse #3 – Lack of Motivation
The Rebuttal to that is, having a support system.
Well, I'm getting better for making time to exercise.  I'm focusing on that, therefore not getting sidetracked to lose time for exercise.  I know I'm only a little over the first week.  But I need to stay motivated.  My wife is definitely helping with that.  As much as I didn't say I didn't want to exercise, I wasn't getting moving to do so, but my wife said we should and that was the little push I needed to do so.  I hope to be her support to.  I'm trying to be with the food portion, and trying to balance calories.  We make a good team, so I hope we can stay focused on this together.  Even though we said we should at least do a quick round of exercise, we did end up getting in 30 minutes which is good.
Three things that motivate me are
  1. My Wife, I want to look great for her.
  2. My Future Children, I don't want to be feeding them bad foods, so I need to be in the habit of good foods now. I don't want them to have the struggle with weight that I have.
  3. I need to become my own biggest motivation.
